Welcome to our community
City of Hampton
As a City of Hampton official, I am interested in creating an environment that will support our citizen’s interest and attract people to live and raise their families. To have industry that attracts and maintain long term residents, we must continue to develop more opportunities for growth and prosperity for our citizens.
The City of Hampton is one large community that is subdivided into ten neighborhood districts that encompasses a diverse population with many life styles. We would like to sustain this diverse population and encourage greater involvement and participation to help us grow. There are many means by which the citizens can identify and address issues at the neighborhood level that will enhance and improve lifestyles while increasing participation in the governing process.
Our city has a large population of seniors who bring valuable experiences and knowledge to the planning process. City officials can tap into this knowledge to create an environment that says we care about seniors. Active involvement in the decision making process by seniors helps us to capture their ideas. From this we can develop and monitor the kinds of programs that will allow them to live a full and safe life.
The youth is our future. We need their ideas and vision of our community so we can create and develop an environment that values and cares about their well being. Our schools must continue to have curriculums that challenge the students and prepare them to participate on the world stage of opportunity. Opportunities must be provided for the young people so they can form advocacy programs where they can voice their positions and challenge their peers. Also, state of the art educational and recreational facilities should be provided.
Hampton has an extensive list of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) that includes tennis courts, soccer fields, parks and play grounds, community centers, curve and gutters, paving of streets, drains, building repair, and flood zone improvement just to name a few. Input from all citizens is critical in prioritizing the need for these projects.
Citizens are the backbone of our community. By working together, we can identify and develop common agendas. Individual participation brings diverse knowledge, history and experience. Since our seaport community is heavily influenced by the seafood industry, shipbuilding, military installations, educational institutions, as well as, the tourist industry, we have the opportunity to create and establish the kind of community to attract and sustain the necessary population to have the most exciting city in Virginia.
